Ashleigh joined GMD Consultants in May 2018, having worked the previous four years in various parts of Australia. After graduating in 2013 from the University of Waikato with an Environmental Planning Major, Ashleigh was keen to gain work and general life experience overseas and travelled to almost 40 countries whilst abroad.
Prior to departing for Australia, Ashleigh had undertaken various internships and part time roles in areas of planning of particular interest to her. Of particular note are the practical experiences she gained at the Waikato River Authority, Waikato Regional Council and Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board. These placements enabled Ashleigh to understand various resource management challenges from different perspectives, and to gain practical knowledge beyond the classroom.
Ashleigh’s initial start at GMD saw her summarising submissions for Waikato Regional Council’s Plan Change 1. By August 2018, Ashleigh had started her secondment at the NZ Transport Agency (Hamilton Office) based within the Consents and Approvals Team. Ashleigh processes Land Use Development applications within the state highway environment such as subdivision applications, vehicle access proposals and larger industrial developments to name a few. Being part of the Transport Agency planning team also grants Ashleigh the chance to work on other projects such as designation uplifts, submitting on councils' new Bylaws and Plan Changes and responding to events within the Waikato Region’s road network.
Keen to continue broadening her experience, Ashleigh is always looking to contribute to the current and future projects undertaken on behalf of GMD Consultants' clients.
