Lily is a graduate planner at GMD Consultants. She joined the team in November 2019 on completion of her undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato, having gained a Bachelor of Environmental Planning majoring in freshwater environments.

During her study, Lily also worked part time in the local government sector, working for Hamilton City Council in the Compliance Team through her last year of university. Her responsibilities included all things waste minimisation which honed her skills in community and stakeholder engagement, and in the organisation and management of large-scale waste management at events.

Since joining GMD, Lily has been involved with a variety of different projects focusing mainly in the local government sector. She has been involved with Waikato Regional Council collating data and developing frameworks for the values of Outstanding Freshwater Bodies in the Waikato region. She has also assisted them with the revision and translation of the Regional Policy Statement to e-Plan format. Lily recently assisted Thames-Coromandel District Council in summarising submissions on the Mercury Bay Reserves Management Plan.

Lily has been involved in the iwi space providing assistance to Raukawa Charitable Trust on resource consent assessment against the iwi’s cultural and environmental value frameworks. She has also worked on analysing the alignment of Iwi Management Plans in the Waikato with the frameworks of the Waikato Plan. Lily also processes land use applications on behalf of Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency. This involves providing planning recommendations that best protect and maintain the integrity of the transport network around the North Island.

In her spare time, Lily is an enthusiastic amateur astronomer and is a committee member of the local Hamilton Astronomical Society. She also enjoys surfing out in Raglan. Lily has recently begun her Master of Environmental Planning, studying part-time while working. She hopes to complete this by the end of 2021.

Lily is enjoying the diversity of work provided through GMD Consultants and looks forward to broadening her professional development through the company.
