Giles is an experienced Resource Management Act policy planning practitioner with particular interest in the natural environment. Giles comes to GMD Consultants after working for six years as Waikato District Council's Senior Environmental Planner. During this time he led landowner engagement and policy and plan provision development for Significant Natural Areas in the Waikato District. Giles also led the natural character and landscapes topic for the Waikato District Plan review.
As well as in natural environment, Giles has experience in urban planning having most recently been involved in the Hamilton to Auckland Growth Corridor Project and also led the development of multi-unit housing provisions in the Proposed Waikato District Plan.
Giles has prepared submissions on RMA plans and policies, both during his time at Waikato District Council and the Department of Conservation. He has worked as a reserves planner, which included attending hearings for the development of reserve management plans, strategies and policies.
Giles started his planning career at Waitakere City Council in 2009 as a resource consent planner.
Giles has a Bachelor of Resource and Environmental Planning (Hons) from Massey University.
